Soldiers of Fortune
For lack of a better word, this is a military for hire. You can hire the whole thing, parts of it, or just a squad, but that’s as small as it gets. That’s not saying that hiring a squad is cheap though. It can be, depending on the squad, but sellswords in a city aren’t cheap. Each squad is entirely autonomous, negotiating for itself, and having no ties back to the group other than a single office building where clients make requests for a squad to meet with. Within this extremely large building are housing for each squad (3-5 people) in a maze of hallways that emanate from a single large central area that has each squad on a rating board based on their performance (with rewards for being higher on the leader board). There, representatives communicate with their squads via telepathy to broker deals with prospective clients.
A squad can be fluid in membership, however must contain between three and five people. Any less and they are considered disbanded. Any more and they are considered inactive until they bring their numbers down. Either way, they are removed from the leader board and need to start again from the bottom.
